This was a hellish debugging process, and AI was a huge help, taking care of a lot of the tedious work.
I had intended to call it my tireless assistant, but on several occasions AI bluntly said that this was an impossible problem, one with no solution, and that we should write a report about it and move on.
I suspect these AIs were trained by people who may not be as stubborn as I am.
Still, although AI was ready to give up several times, whenever I insisted, it would continue adding debugging code and carefully analyze the results. So, credit where credit is due: I also had AI write the commit message above.
